Write Even When You Don’t Feel Like It (#MotivationMonday #AmWriting)

Write When You Don't Feel Like It

There are times when I don’t feel like writing.

Or times when I don’t think what I want to say is important. I feel the former, most often, when I need to revise a piece previously written. I feel that later when I have a thought for a blog post. Lately, my posts have been about life situations or something about life I’ve been thinking about. I know my writing isn’t all about me, so I question if I should put it on paper or not, type it into a Word document or not, post it on my website or not. I’ve been leaning more toward simply writing (typing).

As I get going, more thoughts follow the initial one. Details fill themselves in. Passion begins to engulf my mind and flow through my fingers on the keyboard. I then see the bigger picture. The picture that my words, thoughts, and experiences and those of others, may be of benefit to the reader.

In the case of a short story or flash fiction piece, my fingers seem to take on a mind of their own. Sometimes a single thought becomes over 800 words, sometimes a couple thousand. Sometimes, it seems my writing isn’t going anywhere, but a phrase will stick out to me and that alone becomes its own story.

Just write, just type and let it go where it goes. If it’s scrap, at least you’re more into the habit of getting something down and out of your head.

So, here I am to encourage you to write, to type, to post, to share … let’s continue to help each other in our writing journey.
