Friendship Circles Sometimes Change

Friendship

I’ve heard a saying, “If you can count your friends on one hand, you’re blessed.” I wrote an article about what friendship means to me and due to my definition, my circle of friends is very small.

I often meet someone and we form a bond from talking, attending social events together, etc. Things seem great at first. You start to notice things you don’t particularly like with the person’s thought processes, behaviors … what I call personality defects or character flaws. I believe we all have something about ourselves that needs improving, even me. Self-reflection and self-analyzation will show us what our flaws or defects are. Knowledge and wisdom should be sought if we want to work on being a better version of ourselves. There may be times when someone points out something undesirable within us. Don’t take it personal, think about what was said and determine if it’s valid. If so, make a change. If not, disregard it.

There are times when I don’t think it wise to explain to someone how their personality effects the budding friendship. Those times are when I take a step back and leave the person in the acquaintance category. Everyone that comes into our lives aren’t meant to be close in our hearts or even to remain in our lives.

Don’t force friendships. Don’t chase people down. If it’s meant to be, I believe the friendship will grow. That’s not to say don’t put any effort into it. It means use wisdom to understand a person’s place in your life and not be offended when a friendship or relationship doesn’t go according to your expectations.

I’ve learned to be okay with people coming into and leaving my life. It’s usually not personal.

I’d love to read your thoughts on this article and friendship.
