Our Delay Doesn’t Nullify God’s Word – Part 1 of 2

God's Word

Full Scripture Lesson: 2 Kings 5:1-15

The following is a lesson I created and shared with an addictions group. It really hit home for me and for many members of the group. I went into the lesson seeing God’s healing, but through the group so many more important factors were brought to light. I decided to redo the lesson as a verse by verse breakdown and include “lessons learned” from the scripture.

Part I – 2 Kings 5:1-10

Verse 1: Naaman, commander of an army (signifying leadership), a mighty warrior (indicating he was physically strong), had leprosy (a condition for which people were shunned and considered an outcast, but here Naaman was viewed as great in the eyes of the king due to his service to the king). Despite our physical handicaps, God has use for us and destines us to do great things.

Verse 2, 3: a maid desired that Naaman would see the prophet Elisha to be healed of his leprosy.  There are times in our lives when people desire more for us than we desire for ourselves.

Verse 4, 5: Naaman told the king, his superior what the maid had said and the king supported the maid’s vision. The king gave Naaman a recommendation and gifts to give to the king of Isreal. There are times when someone else’s vision for our lives will be supported by others, who God will use to provide us with everything we need to have peace with someone who can help bring the vision to fruition. God always supplies for our needs!

Verse 6, 7: The king of Israel was dismayed at hearing Naaman’s request. At the same time when some support the vision, there will be those who do not support the vision.  They will become fearful and suspicious of our journey, and may even think we are there to harm them.  What do you do in situations where your vision isn’t supported? What do you do or how to do you react when you do not support someone else’s vision?

Verse 8–10: the prophet, Elisha, heard about what was going on and the Lord used him to set in motion the necessary things to bring about the vision for Naaman’s healing. There are people in our lives who may hear of our struggle, hear of our issue, hear of our problem and ask to be connected to us because they know they have what we need. This is God moving on behalf of your life.

Lessons learned from 2 Kings 5:1-10:

1. Someone else may desire something for us that we may not necessarily desire for ourselves at the present time.

2. Some people will take hold of the vision for our blessing and some will not.

3. God will send someone to you. He will use someone to give us instructions on how to receive our blessing.

May “the LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.” Numbers 6:24-26
