Unblocking Writer’s Block: Free Your Mind

Unblocking Writers Block

It’s not writer’s block. It’s my brain’s way of saying something isn’t quite right.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, even my mild condition, demands things in my head line up and make sense. Things, even thoughts, have to be organized.

I was writing this and that from a schedule that was haphazardly adhered to because my focus was out of focus. My goal was clear; the steps needed to achieve it wasn’t. Writer of all genres, master of none.

Pick one thing to focus on – seeking and obtaining freelance writing or writing for publication and create a writing schedule to complete projects. Yes, freelance payment would help, but what’s the goal? To become established as an author. When a few good things are published, even if by a long-term contract, I can then go back and work on obtaining concrete and steady freelance work.

Since realizing why I was somewhat stalled I’ve managed to get the cogs in my head moving again through creating a new simplistic writing schedule. What’s called writer’s block is a time for self-reflection and realignment with goals.

What are your thoughts? Have you ever had “writer’s block?” If so, how did you overcome it and get back on track? I look forward to reading your thoughts.

I journeyed from GED to a PhD in Psychology. I decided to focus on my writing once I retired from the clinical field. I write in various genres and have several WIPs for publication once edited. I post articles on this website for intellectual and entertainment purposes.
